Where Are We Sleeping Tonight: Missoula KOA, Missoula, Montana
Waking nice and early this morning, we drove through the "town" of West Yellowstone in Montana before crossing back into Wyoming to continue exploring Yellowstone. The morning light lit up the spectacular countryside that makes this part of the country so wonderful. Nothing like a relaxing drive in the countryside - this really feels like a holiday :)
Driving on through the park, we saw lots of amazing things, and smelt lots of icky things! It was incredible seeing how quickly the landscape went from lucy trees in green fields to dead sticks in hot sulphur pits. Walking around Fountain Paint Pot Trail we saw numerous fantastic geyser formations and just in case we couldn't tell that the steam was hot, they had signs to let us know!
Continuing on our way to see Old Faithful, we drove by a field of geysers before arriving at the visitor centre carpark. After finding out that we just missed an eruption and the next one was just over an hour away, we bought some sandwiches and made our way over to the seating area that has been set up around Old Faithful. After finishing our lunch, we noticed more and more people filling up the seating - we were quite lucky to get front row. As we waited for the irruption, a guy in a blue short walked by us a few times. Next thing I knew, he walked up to us and sat on the boardwalk right in front of us! Don't mind us, you moron! As the huge crowd watched, Old Faithful erupted right on time. It was extraordinary seeing this huge burst of water 50 metres into the air!
Back on the road again, it was time to head out of the park, where we drove past more sulphur spurting geysers, including one that spurts hot volcanic water into a cold water stream - it was incredible to see. I never realised not only how many geysers were in Yellowstone, but how different and unique they all are.
Back in Montana, driving through more fabulous countryside, we once again crossed the continental divide. Arriving in the town of Butte, we saw a Lucky Me Casino with a girl who looks just like Clare. After filling up at a Town Pump gas station, we continued on our way to Missoula. Arriving at the fabulous Missoula KOA, we set up our tent in tent site number 10 and found out what a real tent site should be like. We have an undercover wooden table and chairs, a light and a couple of power points! Charging up the laptop, we enjoyed the free wifi and relaxed while we enjoyed our barbecued sausages! This is by far the best KOA we have stayed at the entire trip around the USA. To anyone looking for a great camping spot, this would have to be it!
