USA Day 52 - world's largest ball of twine

Total States Visited: 40
Where Are We Sleeping Tonight: Buffalo River State Park, Glyndon, Minnesota

After waking up extremely hot at dawn, a cold shower helped in getting back to sleep. Sadly there were a large mob of people having a tailgate party in the carpark just outside our window - the majority of the people were employees of the hotel! Dying to get out of this hell hole in 'da hood', we rushed back to the Mall of America where we walked around waiting for the food places to open so we could get some breakfast. After some delicious donuts, we finished exploring everything we missed yesterday in the mall. Some of the great things we saw today included the Mall's wedding chapel, Marvel superhero baking treys, a Hello Kitty store and enough Star Wars t-shirts to destroy a Death Star :) Back in the food court, we had some yummy bourbon chicken for lunch before heading back out on the road.

Our first stop was the town of Darwin, home to the world's largest ball of twine made by one person. Housed inside it's own building, it was interesting to see what must have taken ages to make. Some people have lots of time on their hands out here in the middle of nowhere. Inside the visitor centre and gift shop was a map of the world with dots for where everyone had come from to see the ball of twine - there were a couple from Darwin in Australia who had come to Darwin here in Minnesota... I hope this wasn't the only stop on their trip!

Back on the road, we had to visit Marshall's home town of Saint Cloud where we saw Space Aliens, a sic-fi inspired bar and grill. Obviously we had to stop! We had some delicious boneless chicken wings before spending a lot of time playing in the game arcade. With all the tickets we won, we got some pencils, a mexican finger puzzle and a little rubber alien! The highlight of the visit was definitely getting a photo with Clare's new friend!

Back on the road again, we headed towards Fargo. As our shadow was getting bigger, we decided to stop and set up camp while we still had enough daylight to see what we were doing. Finding the very picturesque and very popular Buffalo River State Park, we just managed to score the last campsite!
