Where Are We Sleeping Tonight: Paramount Hotel, New York City, New York
After an alright breakfast at the curious Galaxy Diner, we caught a bus downtown to the B&H Superstore - that place is huge! I definitely could spend a fortune there... if only I had a fortune to spend there... It was a little overwhelming but the staff know their stuff. We had a bit of a play with various lenses before buying heaps of camera equipment - I can't wait to experiment with it when we get home!
As we walked back to our hotel, we stumbled across Madison Square Garden, which is right across the road from the main New York Post Office. Needing to rest and have a drink, we sat on the famous steps outside the post office, contemplating life, the universe, and everything...
With our shopping deposited back at our hotel, we ventured back outside to discover that there was a light drizzle. We went downtown to Broome Street looking for a knitting pattern for a friend back home (she knows who she is!). As we continued walking, trying to locate the place, the rain got slightly heavier and we got more than just a bit wet. Hopefully we bought the right pattern otherwise we got wet for nothing!
Our next stop was the famous Flatiron Building, where we could also see the Empire State Building, as well as a giant stretched marble head... I don't get art sometimes. Anyway, we continued our sight seeing; our nest stop being Grand Central Station - wow! I knew it was big and yes, it looks like it does in the movies, but nothing gets the size across like actually being there.
Back out in the rain, we caught a bus over to the city library which has featured in numerous movies, from Ghostbusters to The Day After Tomorrow. The library looks just as amazing in real life as it does on the silver screen. Sadly, it was raining all afternoon so we didn't get to take as many pictures as we would have liked. By the time we got back to the hotel, we were soaked from head to toe.
After a quick change (and a rest), we to the Empire AMC cinema on 42nd Street to watch Captain America: The First Avenger - it was very well done and considering the last scene takes place in Times Square, I am glad we watched it in New York City!
I have really enjoyed our time here and wish we could have stayed longer so we could really experience the NYC lifestyle - next time we might need to stay here for a month or so...
