USA Day 35 - Hershey's Chocolate World

Total States Visited: 25
Where Are We Sleeping Tonight: Best Western, Philadelhpia City Centre, Pennsylvania

We woke up this morning to the smell of sizzling bacon. Heather went all out with scrambled eggs, bacon, toast and a mountain of pancakes! It was so wonderfully unexpected and delicious - we felt bad we couldn't eat it all.

On the road agin, we were off to visit the town of Hershey, home of the Hershey Chocolate Factory and Fun Park. The chocolate factory was fun - there was a ride through a mock up of the factory which included singing cows! We were impressed to learn that Mr Milton S Hershy created the town of Hershy so that his employees would have somewhere to live and relax. The store had so much stuff for every different sort of Hershey chocolate - Clare even got to hug a giant Hershey Kiss :)

Next up was the fun park that contains numerous roller coasters, ranging from old style wooden ones, to the ultra modern "Farenheit" which Mia and Clare went on together. Apparently Clare was scared and Mia just laughed at her :)

I happily looked after everyones bags while they all rode on "The Comet", the oldest roller coaster in the park, built in the 1940s before being refurbished in 1978. The park itself was originally built in 1907 to entertain the employees - sounds like Mr Hershey really cared about his staff.

We ventured over to the boardwalk where they have the fantastic wave pool. On a hot day like today, I am so glad that we get to spend some time in a pool. The fact that we are with family makes it even better. For lunch I had a 'gyro' (aka a yiros/doner kabab) which wasn't too bad. After enjoying the pool, we had fun in the giant water play area called Waterworks - it is biggest play area I have ever seen!

Sadly the time came when we had to continue on our way and say our goodbyes. I hope it isn't another 25 years before I see Heather again... at least we can stay in touch with her and her family on Facebook.

After driving to Wilmington in Delaware, we headed North through some really scary suburbs of Philadelphia before finding a hotel with a view from our hotel room window of the city of Philadelphia. Venturing outside after dark, we walked a couple of blocks where we found numerous different food options. Somehow we ended up having Dominos for dinner. Strangely, they fast exactly the same as Dominos back home...
